Course Description
Occupational therapy plays a pivotal role in supporting individuals with mental health conditions to lead fulfilling lives. In this course, students will explore the principles, techniques, and applications of occupational therapy within the context of mental health, with a specific focus on the creation and utilization of sensory rooms in partial hospitalization programs. Through lectures, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of how occupational therapy interventions can address the unique needs of individuals with mental health challenges.
A central component of this course is the exploration of sensory rooms as therapeutic environments within partial hospitalization programs. Students will learn how to design and implement, sensory rooms tailored to meet the sensory preferences and therapeutic goals of clients. Topics covered will include sensory room equipment selection, safety considerations and therapeutic activities. Additionally, students will explore the interdisciplinary nature of mental health care, learning how to effectively collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide holistic care to clients.
By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to utilize sensory rooms as valuable tools in occupational therapy practice within partial hospitalization programs.
