Exploring Gender Just Relationships, Gender, Sex, Sexuality, Conflict, Difficult Conversations, Relationships.
Course Description
This course is brought to you by One Future Collective. One Future Collective is a feminist social purpose organisation with a vision of a world built on social justice, led by communities of care. We fight for each person’s right to live a life of safety, dignity, and belongingness by catalysing people’s power and building just institutions.
The course “Exploring Gender Just Relationships” is designed as a comprehensive exploration of gender, sex, and sexuality, aiming to provide participants with a nuanced understanding of these concepts. This course is designed to explore the various kinds of relationships in our lives and explore them from a gender-just lens. We live and interact with others around us within social, gendered institutions such as capitalism and patriarchy. These institutions and norms influence our socialisation, our relationships with each other, and even our day-to-day interactions.
We will start by building an understanding of gender, sex and sexuality, followed by other key concepts such as intersectionality, power and privilege. We will then move on to exploring the structures of oppression and examine how these structures shape our interpersonal relationships. We will then learn to identify the various ways in which gender shows up in our relationships and day-to-day interactions and how to bring a gender-just lens to our relationships.
Some of the key objectives of the course are as follows:
- To understand the meaning of gender, sex and sexuality
- To situate gender within interpersonal relationships;
- To understand how gendered structures impact all relationships;
- To explore different relationships from the lens of gender justice while examining gender power dynamics that exist in different kinds of relationships;
- To build frameworks for gender-just relationships and how one can be gender-just in our relationships.
