Course Description
This course discusses a third year occupational therapy student’s capstone experience at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. The course discusses the background of dental ergonomics, including the need for assessment and intervention. It will also include how occupational therapists are uniquely suited to address ergonomics in the workplace. To further explain, the course includes artifacts and resources completed by the capstone student for this site. Artifacts include fact sheets about dental ergonomics, a formal ergonomic written evaluation, a presentation on the importance of ergonomics, a presentation on stress management, and a presentation on ergo break ideas (stretches, exercises, and nerve glides) for dental professionals. Finally, the course will cover the research study completed during the capstone experience, including the full manuscript. This study focuses on the ergonomics of dental instruments used by dental students.
The course ends with a question and answer section on the topics discussed to allow individuals the ability to enrich their knowledge on the topics shared.
