BIOL 4392 Research Methods – Learn Statistics, Developing inquiries for STEM educators..

Course Description

This course is specifically designed for students enrolled in the UTeach program, with a focus on integrating scientific inquiry and mathematical reasoning in educational settings. The primary objective of BIOL 4392 is to equip students with the skills needed to design and execute research projects relevant to both the science and mathematics classrooms. Students will engage in independent inquiries, honing their ability to ask meaningful research questions, design experiments, collect and analyze data, and draw conclusions that can contribute to their understanding of teaching and learning.

Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of how research methods apply to real-world classroom situations, blending the disciplines of science and mathematics to approach and solve complex problems. Coursework will emphasize inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and the development of strong written and oral communication skills. In addition to scientific and educational inquiry, students will enhance their quantitative reasoning abilities by using mathematical tools to support and validate their research findings.

By the end of this course, students will not only have completed individual research projects but will also have gained practical experience in implementing research-driven solutions in the classroom, preparing them for careers as future educators and researchers.
