Welcome to our online course on Construction Cost Estimating using Microsoft Excel. This course is designed for intermediate students who already have a basic understanding of cost estimating. We won’t cover the basics in this course, but we have another course available that covers the fundamentals of cost estimating for beginners.
Estimating is a critical skill in the construction industry, used by project engineers, estimators, and other members of the infrastructure sector. Lots of different companies in the infrastructure and building sector need and use estimating, and students who develop these skills can land high-paying jobs.
The course revolves around estimating the costs of an imaginary garage construction project. As part of the course, students will get to go through a real design package and estimate the costs of delivering the project. We will use made-up figures and numbers, so don’t worry too much about the specific figures. The purpose of the course is to understand the processes used to develop the estimate. In the real world, we would be able to get proper figures.
The course is delivered in two parts. In part 1, we will cover setting up the estimate, working out how we are going to price the job, setting up our pricing model, and calculating the costs of the civil and structures scope. In part 2, we will estimate the costs of the building, services, and fit-out scope.
Throughout the course, we will use Microsoft Excel to build a comprehensive estimate. We will provide you with detailed instructions and support to help you get the most out of the course.
By the end of the course, you will have a deep understanding of the estimating process and how to use Microsoft Excel to create comprehensive cost estimates. You will also have a completed estimate that you can use as a reference for future projects.
