Course Description
Epilepsy is a Neurological disorder characterized by the repeated occurrence of seizures. Seizure is sudden involuntary or uncontrolled movement of body and changes in behavior due to abnormal electrical discharge from brain. In epilepsy, some of the neurons in the brain temporarily fire the electrical impulses very rapidly at the rate of 3 to 4 times higher than normal. A seizure is a single event occurring due to abnormal rapid firing of impulses. Whereas Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder where there is the occurrence of multiple episodes of unprovoked seizures in an individual’s lifetime. Having just one or two seizures is not epilepsy.
