Course Description
Scrapbook journaling is a form of art therapy, although it might not always be recognized as such in a formal clinical context. Art therapy is a therapeutic technique rooted in the idea that creative expression can foster healing and mental well-being. It is typically facilitated by a professional art therapist and often involves using visual arts like drawing, painting, collage, and sculpting as a means of communication and self-expression.
This is a course that looks solely at Scrapbook Journaling and aims to enable the student to gain many of the therapeutic benefits of art therapy.
What benefits?
Various exercises are included in the course. These exercises will encourage participants to represent their thoughts, feelings, and experiences through the combination of images, patterns, and words. These may then be shared with others on the course – or not.
It is up to you.
Just by doing the exercises you will be engaging in the creative process which can be inherently therapeutic. It stimulates the imagination and can lead to a sense of accomplishment and personal satisfaction.
Scrapbook journaling requires focus and this can encourage a state of flow, which is a form of mindfulness that can reduce stress and improve mental health.

But this is a ‘course’ so it not comprised entirely of exercises.
We delve into:

- Incorporating mixed media
- The interpretation of symbols and metaphors
- The exploration of colour
Also, in the concluding lecture, we go through one person’s piece of work – in depth. Having gained permission, notes taken at the extensive interview are discussed, symbols explained and journeys examined.
